This W222 is Mercedes’ first S-Class convertible four-seater since the W111 Cabriolet went out of production in 1971 and AMG’s first-ever take on one and became a one-generation model, hence it's uniqueness.
Whether blasting into the stratosphere or roaming the roads at a reasonable pace, the S63’s exhaust, finished with a quartet of squared-off chrome tips, provides an audible reminder of the greatness that is a hand-built AMG engine.
Swathed in more leather than a biker convention, you’ll find nary a hard touch point outside of the buttons and wood trim, with everything from the dash to the door panels covered in supple cowhide. The seats themselves feature air-actuated bolsters up front that hug tight under lateral g forces to keep driver and passenger firmly planted, as well as multi-function massage, heating and ventilation. The lucky pair sitting up front also benefit from the added luxury of warm air being blown down their backs courtesy of Mercedes’ neck-level heating system.
On the road, the S63 Cabrio is a treat on long drives, a topless grand tourer extraordinaire. While the back seat may not be as regal as that of an S-Class sedan, it's more than roomy enough to fit an adult back there for a little while.
Mind you, not everybody looks good going topless. There are exceptions to the rule including the Bentley Continental GTC When that top can be dropped in under 20- seconds, at up to 31 mph, there’s the bonus. It's powered by a hand-built (one man, one engine) AMG 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged (Biturbo) V-8 engine that produces 577 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque. The S63 Cabriolet is made for mountain roads – not for covering them at speed, but for ascending them with imperial mien. You take this car up to your aerie at the top of the hill, or to get the best view of everything you’re going to conquer at the bottom of the hill. In between you cruise the urban boulevards and lose track of the number of affirming nods coming your way. After 45 years away from the game, Mercedes has re-entered at the top – before you get to really spendy English fare – and remain alone there.
Cars are rented out strictly for Film Projects, Video/Photo shoots, special events and/or staging.
Not available for rent to self-drive.
